The Mount Rushmore memorial is dedicated. It was completed in 1941. The sculpture would feature the 60-foot (18 m) tall heads of U.S. Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. These presidents were chosen by Borglum to represent the nation’s birth, growth, development, and preservation, respectively.
