Timothy Leary Escapes Prison……

September 12, 1970……

The former educator and LSD advocate Timothy Leary escapes from a California prison and flees to Algeria. He was several months into a ten-year prison sentence for possessing two marijuana “roaches”. He escaped by using a telephone line to climb over the prison wall. He was then smuggled out the prison by the Weathermen, who were paid $25,000 by The Brotherhood of Eternal Love for their assistance. He and his wife then hid out in Argentina, fleeing to Switzerland in 1971. He was arrested by the federal Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs in 1972 while traveling in Afghanistan and sent to Folsom Prison and placed in a cell next to Charles Manson. Leary was released from prison in 1976. During this time, U.S. President Richard Nixon labeled him “The most dangerous man in America”.

Willie Nelson Smokes Pot at the White House……

September 13, 1980…….

U.S. President Jimmy Carter, a fan of Willie Nelson, invited the country singer to perform on the South Lawn of the White House. Rosalynn Carter even joined Nelson for a duet, singing Up Against the Wall Redneck Mother. Later that night, Nelson went on the roof of the White House where he lit up a “big fat Austin torpedo” (marijuana cigarette) and smoked it with Carter’s son. President Carter claimed not to have known of Nelson’s after-hours activities.

Youngest U.S. President……

September 14, 1901……

42-year-old Theodore Roosevelt is sworn in, making him the youngest U.S. president. Roosevelt became president after the assassination of President McKinley. He did not use a Bible for his oath of office.
