Bonnie and Clyde Killed…..

May 23, 1934……

Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker are ambushed and killed while headed to their Bienville Parish, Louisiana hideout. A posse ambushed them and riddled them and their car with over 130 rounds of ammo. The duo and their gang are believed to have killed at least nine police officers and several civilians.

Brooklyn Bridge…..

May 24, 1883……

The Brooklyn Bridge over the East River is opened. It connected the cities of New York and Brooklyn for the first time in history. Its construction took 14 years and the deaths of 27 workers.

Star Wars…..

May 25, 1977…….

The first film of the Star Wars series premieres. It surpassed Jaws to become the highest grossing film of all time – A record it held until E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982). The series is one of the highest-grossing film franchises of all time. This episode would later be retitled Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.

American Pie……

May 26, 1971……

Don McLean records his #1 hit song American Pie. The song’s refrain “the day the music died” refers to a plane crash in 1959 that killed Buddy HollyJ.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson, and Ritchie Valens, ending the era of early rock and roll.
